Paris Olympics: The Torch Relay

Paris Olympics 2024 Torch Relay

There are only a few weeks to go before the official start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the excitement can be felt all across the city.

As part of this, the Olympic Torch has been on a mission over the last months to meet as many people as possible to kick off the Games’ celebrations.

The Olympic Torch Relay reached French Guiana on the 9th of June, having travelled through continental France for a month. This marked the start of the Ocean Relay’s chapter. As a result, for the first time in its history, French Guiana became the first overseas territory of France to receive the Olympic Torch.

Following a very symbolic Amerindian ritual, the torch was lit before boarding a pirogue and travelling down the Oyapock River.
