Tour Itinerary
Oxford, the enchanting city of spires, cloistered colleges and secluded gardens is home to the oldest university in the English-speaking world.
Set out deep in the countryside of Oxfordshire, the city has been the educational home to some of the world's greatest minds and leaders. Its spectacular location on the Chernwell and Thames Rivers has also been the inspiration for the works of some of the world's most famous authors including, amongst others, Charles Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll), C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien.
After being driven through some spectacularly scenic English countryside by your private chauffeur, the day begins with your personal guide taking your party on a private guided tour of Oxford town and its historical colleges.
Hear tales and and secrets from the past as you take to the cobbled streets and marvel at the spiralling architecture, admiring every British architectural period from the Saxons to 18th century icons such as the Radcliffe Camera, regarded by many as the city's prime landmark.
For lunch you'll have time to choose from a wide range of traditional English pubs or restaurants. There will also be opportunites to visit the wide variety of shops in this charming traditional english city.
In the afternoon you will have a guided visit inside Christ Church College, the largest and perhaps most famous of all the ancient Oxford colleges.
Harry Potter, Narnia and the Lord of the Rings
Oxford’s fabled streets echo with the names of key literary figures and our guides are happy to include sights on all the above.
Harry Potter film fans will feel right at home when visiting Oxford, as the city continues to play a major setting in the highly successful film adaptations. You will be able to tour Christ Church College, which provided Hogwart's staircase in the first film where Professor McGonagall greeted the schoolchildren upon their arrival to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Visitors will also be able to see Christ Church's Great Hall on which Hogwart's spectacular dining room was modelled.
Narnia fans will delight in hearing of the inspirations for C.S. Lewis' much loved chronicles, including that lamppost which greeted the Pevensie children's visit to Narnia in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Visitors with an interest in the Lord of the Rings will be able to follow in the footsteps of J.R.R. Tolkien, who was Professor of both Anglo-Saxon and English Literature throughout his time at Oxford. Witness what inspired the fight between good and evil in Middle Earth, including the local hang-out where Tolkien and the other members of the Inkling Circle met to share their stories.
