As we say goodbye to the summer, we are already very much looking forward to what Christmas 2013 will have to offer. To begin to get you into the festive spirit, here is part 1 of our mini-guide to everything Christmas in London 2013:

MUSIC

St Martins in the fields, Trafalgar Square: Annual Christmas Carol Service

St. Martin’s in the fields is located in Trafalgar Square next to the National Art Gallery (the nearest underground station is Charing Cross/ Leicester Square Station)

Christmas is the most important time for concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields and this season features a packed programme of festive favourites; make sure not to miss the annual candle light concert, free for all!

The Royal Albert Hall: Annual Christmas Shows

The Royal Albert Hall is located to the south of Hyde Park in London (Kensington Gore, London SW7 2AP, the nearest underground station is South Kensington).

Let your Christmas fun begin as the dancing Jingle Belles return to join the London Concert Orchestra and two fabulous West End soloists to kick start your Christmas celebrations. It’s jingle-tastic hit after hit all the way!

The Royal Ballet: The Nutcracker

The Royal Opera House is located in Covent Garden, walking distance from Covent Garden/Leicester Square underground station.

Make sure not to miss E.T.A Hoffman’s The Nutcracker; the definitive way of putting you in the Christmas spirit, even if your name is Ebenezer Scrooge!

The Revenge of Sherlock Holmes. Hoxton Hall, 130 Hoxton Street, London, N1 6SH

Showing 10th April – 10th May 2013 Wednesday to Saturday at 7:30pm. Saturday matinees at 3:00pm. Sundays at 2:00pm and 6:00pm.

All is not as it should be at 221b Baker Street. Sherlock Holmes has become a trifle bored. The watery demise of his archenemy Moriarty has left him bereft. His assistant, Dr. Watson, is away with the fairies and his disgruntled housekeeper, Mrs Hudson, is, well, … she’s growing increasingly neurotic in her quest to find a man.

Theatre in London: The West End

London's West End

The West End is a flexible term used by Londoners to describe the entertainment district in central London, notably the streets surrounding Leicester Square, Covent Garden and the shopping districts of Regent Street, Oxford Street and Bond Street, along with the bright lights of Piccadilly Circus.

Widely covered on a Private London Tour, The West End is however much more than just shopping and restaurants. It is also used to mean the capital’s theatreland!

You can catch everything in London, from modern day musicals like Mama Mia, We Will Rock You and The Lion King, to classic Shakespearian productions both in the heart of town or at the Globe Theatre on the banks of the River Thames.

The Mousetrap - The World's Longest Running Show

One of the more famous venues is Her Majesty’s Theatre located on Haymarket. It is the original home to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera and is unique in the sense that its name changes with the gender of the monarch – it was known as His Majesty’s Theatre from 1901 to 1952, and became Her Majesty’s on the accession of Queen Elizabeth II.
